The net deaths registered in the borough during 1948 were: Males, 538;
females, 533; total, 1,071. This represents a decrease of 100 compared with
the previous year.
The death rate per 1,000 of the population was 10.04, as compared with
10.8 for England and Wales. The natural increase of population (that is,
excess of birth over deaths) was 621, as compared with 918 for 1947.
Sex Mortality.
The sex mortality rate was : Males, 5.04 per 1,000 ; females, 5.00 per
1,000.
