Swimming Baths and Pools.
Excellent facilities for swimming are provided at the Corporation's three
open-air baths.
Water is supplied by the Metropolitan Water Board's main, and samples
for bacteriological examination are taken throughout the season.
Smoke Abatement.
It was not necessary to take any formal action during the year regarding
excessive emissions of smoke.
Petroleum (Consolidation) Act, 1928, and Petroleum Spirit Regulations,
1929-47.
During the year 236 visits were paid by the Sanitary Inspectors to premises
upon which petroleum or carbide of calcium was stored. One hundred and
nine licences were issued in respect of these premises.
Shops Act, 1934.
One statutory notice was served under section 10 of this Enactment in
respect of one premises with insufficient W.C. accommodation.
Two exemption certificates were granted under section 10 (2) of the
Act in relation to sanitary conveniences, making a total of 13 premises within
the borough for which such certificates are now extant.

Eleven licences in respect of establishments for massage or special
treatment were issued during the year. The premises were kept in a satisfactory
