Case 3. la. Ac. yellow atrophy of liver in pregnancy,
b. Bilateral Broncho Pneumonia. Infant stillborn
not macerated.
,, 4. Pulmonary Embolism-due to child birth.
,, 5. Therapeutic Abortion.
A full enquiry is made into the- cause of every maternal
death.
The maternal mortality rate per 1,000 total (live and still)
births was 2.35. That for England and.Wales was 1.17.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
There were 84 deaths of infants under one year during the
year giving an infantile mortality rate of 40.21 per. 1,000 live
births. This shows a considerable increase on the figure of
26.09 for 1946, but compares favourably with the rate for England
and Wales in 1947 which was 4.1.OO.
