Five maternal deaths occurred during the year 1947,
BIRTH CONTROL AND GYNAECOLOGICAL CASES.
No birth control clinic is held in the Borough, but
arrangements have been made with the Birth Control Clinios at
Richmond and Hounslow for mothers on medical recommendation
to receive advice on "family spacing1' and gynaecological
complaints. In necessitous cases the Corporation undertakes
responsibility for payment for consultations and appliances.
HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION.
During 1947 four patients were admitted to 16, The Park,
Golders Green, for their confinements, and eight to the postnatal
home at Hendon. The cost of these arrangements is borne
by the Corporation, the contribution payable by the patient
being assessed according to the Council's scale of assistance.

HEALTH VISITORS.
The approved establishment of Health Visitors is fifteen
including the Superintendent Health Visitor - although due to
changes in the personnel this number was not maintained. They
also carried out the duties of school nurses on behalf of the
Middlesex County Council. The follow ng visits were made to:-

Visits wore also paid to children of school age in cases
of suspected infectious diseases and to follow up those
reoomnended for medical treatment or observation. The Health
Visitors also attended as required at minor ailment,
ophthalmic and dental clinics.
POST-GRADUATE E?UCATION.
Two Health Visitors attended the Preliminary Part-time
Teaching Course arranged bythe Women Public Health Officers'
Association during the year, and two the Advanced Course. The
Midwiv&s attended a post-graduate course arranged by the
London, Middlesex o.nd Surrey County Councils.
