Puerperal Pyrexia
Fourteen cases of puerperal pyrexia were notified as
compared with seven for the previous year. Twelve cases were
treated in hospital.
Cerebro-spinal Fever.
There were two cases .of cerebro-spinal fever notified
during 1946, a decrease of three on the previous year. Both cases
were treated in hospital. Two deaths were recorded from this
disease.
Me a s le s and Whoop inp; G ough.
During the year, 343 cases of measles were notified as
compared with 1,418 for the previous year. Eleven cases were
admitted to hospital. There"was one death giving a death rate of
0.01 per 1,000 of population. The death rate for England and
Wales was 0.00 per 1,000 of population.
The number of cases of,whooping cough notified - 89
was "below the average and showed a decrease of 74 on the previous
year. Twelve cases were admitted to hospital, There were two
deaths giving a death rate of 0.02 per 1,000 of the population.
The rate for England and Wales was 0.02
(b ) NON-HOT IF IaBLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Diseases coming under this category include influenza,
chicken pox and mumps. As these diseases are not notifiable it is
not possible to ascertain the exact incidence. During the year,
however, the following cases were brought to the notice of the
Department:-

Influenza 1
TUBERCULOSIS.
During the year 1946 there were I39 new cases of
tuberculosis notified, an increase of three on the previous year,
39 deaths were recorded from this disease giving a death rate of
0.37 per 1,000 of the population. Non-notified tuberculosis
deaths - cases not notified as tuberculosis and not recorded in
the registers of the deportment during life - were responsible
for 25.64 per cent of the total tuberculosis deaths,
