Establishments for Massage or Special Treatment.
During the year 1938 the Corporation adopted Part VII. of the Middlesex
County Council Act, 1034. Part VII. provides, inter alia, for the licensing
of establishments for massage or special treatment. Byelaws for the
regulation of such licensed establishments were also made.
One application—to carry on the business of chiropody—was received
during the year, and this was granted.
Hairdressers' and Barbers' Premises.
The Council made byelaws during the year under section 78 (1) of the
Middlesex County Council Act, 1934, for the purpose of securing the
cleanliness of any premises in the borough used for the purpose of carrying
on the business of a hairdresser or barber, and of the instruments, towels,
equipment and materials used in such premises.
Housing.
During the year under review, housing inspection proceeded steadily,
and the following statistics show the useful work carried out under this
heading.
In pursuance of the policy of clearing insanitary and unhealthy areas,
considerable attention was given during the latter part of the year to this
matter. As a result it is probable that representations will be made to the
Council in respect of some six areas. This subject will be dealt with fully in
my next report.
