Water Supply.
The Metropolitan Water Board maintained a constant and satisfactory
water supply throughout the borough. There are very few wells, practically
every house deriving its water supply from that of the Board.
Drainage and Sewerage.
Arrangements have been made to disconnect the sewage from Kingstonon-Thames,
where it has been conveyed and treated for many years, and
connect it to the Mogden Scheme of the Middlesex County Council, and so
bring it into line with that of the Teddington and Twickenham areas.
Similarly, negotiations have been in progress for the Hampton sewage
to be connected to the Mogden system. It is expected that this work will
also shortly be put in hand.
The surface water main outfall in Wharf lane has been relaid and an
area, central in Twickenham, liable to flooding in heavy rain, thereby relieved.
Rivers and Streams.
No complaints regarding the pollution of the river Thames or streams
were received by the Department during the year.
Public Cleansing.
A scheme is being submitted to the Ministry of Health providing for a
greatly enlarged destructor, centrally situated on the site of the existing
inadequate Twickenham plant, designed to dispose of the whole of the refuse
from the borough. This scheme also embraces the operation of a modern
combined horse and mechanical system of collection over the whole of the
borough, covering a population of over 100,000 persons. It is hoped that
this will be approved by the Ministry of Health at an early date.
Sanitary Inspection of District.
Despite the difficulties experienced by three changes in the personnel of
the Sanitary Inspectorate during the year, the work under this heading has
nroreeded stearlilv and has been nrosecuted with thoroughness.

The visits paid in respect of each branch of the work are set out under the appropriate headings.
