No application was received for the services of a consultant in cases of
puerperal pyrexia.
A special clinic for the examination of mothers after confinement has not
been established, but mothers are urged to attend at the Ante-Natal Clinic
for subsequent examination. It is still a matter of great difficulty to obtain
satisfactory attendances and only 21 mothers attended during the year.
Two maternal deaths occurred in the borough during the year, both of
which were unavoidable. One of these cases was a non-resident in the
borough.
Three deaths in consequence of childbirth took place amongst Twickenham
residents whose confinements took place outside the borough, making a total
of four deaths due to childbirth. With the exception of one case who was
not under a private medical practitioner's supervision and who did not attend
at any ante-natal clinic prior to confinement, these deaths were nonpreventable.
