The (uncorrected) death rate was somewhat higher than that for the preceding year, but
was 1.0 per thousand less than that for England and Wales generally, and practically the same
as that for towns of comparable size.

Compared with the preceding year, there was an increase in the deaths from Influenza,
Tuberculosis of the lungs, Bronchitis, Cancer and diseases of the heart and circulation. The
deaths from Violence, excluding suicide, numbered 20, exactly double the number for the previous
year.
Of the total deaths of Twickenham residents, 142 occurred in the County Council
Institutions of Isleworth and elsewhere, 38 in hospitals in Twickenham, Richmond, London and
elsewhere, 8 in Sanatoria and 17 in Nursing Hemes. This means that approximately 44 per cent,
of the deaths of Twickenham persons occurred in hospitals and other institutions for the reception
of the sick, excluding mental hospitals.
