SECTION C
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA
Water Supply
the Director of Water Examination, Metropolitan Water Board has
supplied me with the following information:
The water supply to the Borough of Wanstead and Woodford has
been satisfactory both in quantity and quality during the year 1961.
The Borough is supplied mostly with River Lee derived water from
Lee Bridge Works, but there is a small amount of additional water from
the Wanstead, Ferry Lane and Chingford wells.
Samples are collected on five days in every week or more often if
necessary at each stage of the purification process, and from the distribution
system. Tests include physical, chemical and micro-biological
examination. The analytical results of the water passing into supply from
the above sources were satisfactory.
All new and repaired mains are disinfected with chlorine before being
put into service and the samples of water from them are tested bacteriologically
to ensure that its quality is up to that normally supplied. The
water to this area is not plumbo-solvent.
