disturbance are referred to the Child Guidance Clinic, but in cases
where the emotional element is slight enuresis alarms are provided
through the School Health Service.
During the year, alarms have been loaned to 111 children,
and special follow-up visits are arranged in order that the
school medical officer may assess progress.
Special Schools:
In last year's report I commented on Woodcroft Special School,
Loughton, which is a private school registered by the Department
of Education and Science. Special provision is made there for
the education of autistic, spastic, brain-damaged and otherwise
disturbed children; the aim being to bring them up to a standard
whereby they will ultimately fit into an appropriate special school
suited to their age and ability. 15 children from the Division are
placed at Woodcroft, and one of the school medical officers visits
regularly and is responsible for the medical supervision of the
children in attendance.
School Psychological Service:
Dr. L.F. Lowenstein, the Psychologist working in the Loughton
area reports:-
"During the year 1967 the clinic at Loughton has been going
at full stretch. There is still a part-time Psychiatrist and
Psychiatric Social Worker, part-time Social Worker, and one
full-time Psychologist. The area being covered is Loughton,
Waltham Abbey, Chigwell and Epping.

Work with the schools and work in the clinic is about twice as high and there has been some increase in advice to parents and schools on handling children, and advice on curriculum.
