Special Schools (Residential);
(a) Chigwell High View School:
This residential school for educationally sub-normal boys
had 116 on roll at the end of the year, ages ranging from 11 to
16 years.
15 pupils were specially examined during the year regarding
the provision of community care by the Mental Welfare Department
after leaving school, this action being determined as necessary
in only 8 cases.
There has been no change in the system of giving every
pupil a routine School Medical Inspection during the year.
(b) Nazeing Park School:
A residential school for maladjusted children catering for
boys and girls in the 7-11 year age group who are kept under
observation by a Consultant Psychiatrist.
A School Medical Officer visits the school regularly and
each pupil is given a routine medical inspection during the
year.
Child Guidance Service.
Referral of children remains as previously, i.e. to
Walthamstow Child Guidance Centre except for those residing in
Epping Urban and Rural districts, who attend Harlow Child Guidance
Centre.
Educational Psychologist referrals continued to be mainly
on account of slow progress at school and in the majority of
cases the children proved to be of dull intelligence, although
some came within the E.S.N, range. A number of pupils were
taken on for individual coaching in reading. "
