TUBERCULOSIS:
Eighteen new cases of tuberculosis were notified among residents in the District during the year with the following distribution:-

Tuberculosis case finding among school entrants:
The results obtained in the District are as follows:-
Number to whom offered: 745
Number tested and percentage: 557 (74.7%)
Positive reactors -
Known contacts; 11
Newly found reactors: 13
Total: 24
The new reactors were referred to the Chest Physicians for
investigation. Where necessary, members of the child's family and
other contacts were called for examination, but in no instance was
anything of serious significance discovered.
VACCINATION AND IMMUNISATION SCHEMES:
1. B.C.C. Vaccination of school children:
This scheme for the 13/14 year age groups shows a alight
decrease from 75.3% to 74,3% in the acceptance rate. The table below
shows the results for the Chigwell Urban District:-
Number of school children to whom B.C.G.
vaccination was offered: 1,377
Number accepted: 1,023 (74.3%)
Number given skin test and percentage: 1,001 (72,6%)
Number who gave positive reaction to
skin test: 60
Number who received B.C.G.: 879
