The major source of smoke in the Urban District is the
domestic fire. This is demonstrated by the measurements which
show a large increase in air pollution during the winter months
when household fires come into use whereas industrial air pollution
remains fairly constant throughout the year.
It will be interesting to see if there is any significant
decrease in air pollution in this District as a result of the
Smoke Control areas now being made on some of our boundaries.
Prior Approval.
Upon application, the Council gave †Prior Approval†for
3 new furnaces under Section 3 of the Clean Air Act, 1956.
