Salvage recovery, principally of paper and rags, has continued
at the tip by Council employees. Paper is brought in already
separated in trailers attached to the collection vehicles and is
sorted and handbailed. During the year the total tonnage of
useful salvage recovered and disposed of was 394 tons, including
334 tons of paper.
Kitchen waste has been collected from street bins and 317
tons have been conveyed during the year to a concentrator and
sterilising plant at Tottenham.
Road gullies (in streets maintainable by the inhabitants at
large) are emptied three times each year and re-sealed with
clean water. This is done by mechanical suction process under
annual contract.
