Section C.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
1. (i) Water—
The water supply for almost the whole district is derived from the
Metropolitan Water Board. This supply is very satisfactory both in
quality and quantity. There are a few isolated houses where the supply
is from wells.
(ii) Drainage and Sewerage—
The new outfall works at Luxborough were brought into operation
towards the end of the year, and the whole of the new intercepting
sewer between Debden Green and Luxborough having been completed,
the old works at Loughton, Buckhurst Hill and Debden have been put
out of service, except for the treatment of a small flow from part of the
Station Estate at the Loughton works. This will cease when the Roding
Road Pumping Station alteration and enlargement can be proceeded
with and completed. Pumping Stations at Rous Road and Monkhams
Estate, Buckhurst Hill, have been dispensed with, the flow previously
lifted now gravitating by the new sewer. The building of a Manager's
House and Staff Cottages at Luxborough Works, and the erection of
proper offices, laboratory, etc., all of which formed part of the complete
scheme, have been deferred on accouut of financial restrictions imposed
as a result of war conditions.
