Births.—The total number of live births registered during the year was 2,671, excluding
re-registrations, but 1,356 of these did not belong to this district, while 168 births properly
belonging to this district occurred outside the district. The nett number of live births thus
attributable to the district is 1,483, a decrease of 9 compared with last year's figure. Adopting
the population basis supplied by the Registrar-General for the calculation of the birth-rate, this
comes to 14.9 per 1,000. The birth-rate of England and Wales was 14.9 per 1,000 and for
London 13.3 per 1,000.
