Investigation of this case disclosed no source of contact except
a remote possibility in the Chapel on Sunday. The Female Infirm
Block is situated at the extreme south end of the grounds, a long
way from all the other buildings where the former cases had arisen.
Investigation of all sources of infection—laundry, staff, staffs
relations, etc., produced no evidence of the source of infection other
than the most remote.
The type of case was very mild discrete of the same type as
the Gloucester outbreak, characterised by rapid maturation of the
pocks. As an example, on seeing a case with the Medical Officer
of the Dockwell Hospital, I pointed out that this was a 4th day rash
with which the Medical Officer agreed. The patient thereon remarked
that he had only two spots on yesterday which the Doctor
marked as he was not sure of them, which turned out to be the case.
All the cases made a perfectly good recovery.
No vaccinations were performed by the Medical Officer of
Health under the Public Health (Small-Pox) Prevention Regulations,
1917) during the year under review.
