11/5/22—Letter to Secretary, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital.
" Many thanks for letter. I am afraid it is
quite out of the question for the patient to pay
for the charge made for the operation.
If you could put me in touch with the means
of getting a 'Subscribers' or 'Saturday Fund'
letter, I should be extremely obliged."
Nothing, however, came of these efforts and daily
treatment at the Clinic was carried out.
15/6/22—Complains of pain over Mastoid—some tenderness.
Temperature normal—referred to own doctor if
continuing.
19/6/22—No further pain or tenderness over Mastoid. Very
little discharge.
29/9/22—Having got the people to realise the importance of
the condition, I again tried to get something done.
Letter to Dr. " A." :—
" You remember seeing this girl, who you said
required an operation. If you could possibly
arrange it, they are anxious that something should
be done."
This, however, was fruitless.
30/10/22—I wrote to another friend, who is one of the leading
Ear Specialists in London.
Letter to Mr. "B":—
" I shall be glad if you could see a child who
has been under observation here for three years
with profuse otorrhoea. It seems to me that nothing
short of a radical mastoid would be of the slightest
use. I have at last managed to ginger them up
with regard to getting something done, and if you
think it wise, I could get her sent along. The
mother in this case is a perfectly hopeless person,
and I have had the greatest difficulty in getting
anything done at all."
