The following cases illustrate the necessity for persistent
" following up," and the results that can only be obtained by
so doing.
Case 1.
1/5/19—the child was first noted as suffering from double
otitis media. It should be mentioned that the
mother is a hopeless person and the family neglected.
Daily treatment was carried out at the Clinic.
29/5/19—she was recommended for hospital treatment and
eventually on
25/7/19 she was attending Hounslow Hospital.
8/9/19—she was re-admitted to school, having been excluded
on 1/5/19. She re-appeared at the Clinic, the note
being, " To be allowed irregular attendance, is
attending Hounslow Hospital."
27/5/20—Profuse discharge. Tonsillitis. Excluded.
3/6/20—Mother contemplates taking her to Richmond
Hospital.
7/6/20—Re-admitted to school.
Then ensued a spell of neglect to attend the Clinic
for treatment and of visits by the Health Visitor
to ensure attendance.
19/7/20—Not attending hospital.
Then things were quiescent for a time.
12/5/21—R. ear discharging—commenced again.
Daily treatment at Clinic.
20/6/21—Still discharging—very unsatisfactory as does not
attend regularly and mother will not take child to
hospital.
