Milk.
No material change has been observed during the past year
in the conditions under which cow-keeping and milk-vending are
carried on in the district. 197 inspections were carried out in
respect of dairies and milkshops.
125 grants were made during the year. Unofficial milk
analyses are made by the Medical Officer of Health.
A serious complaint was made by one of the dairymen in
the district, that his well, used for cooling purposes, was contaminated
and that he had had to put in 2 pumps, and a new draw
pipe and strainer owing to the corrosion taking place. Examination
of the well and pumping gear, showed that the water had a faint
yellowish colouration, probably due to iron, and that the whole of
the end of the draw pipe in the well was eaten away. The
dairyman expressed a fear that his coolers might be perforated
and his milk damaged.
