ROUTINE MEDICAL INSPECTION.
The selection of children due for this inspection during 1915
included:—
1. Those born during the year 1909.
2. Those born in the year 1903.
3. Those born in the year 1906.
4. Those absent at last Medical Inspection.
Extent of the Examination.
The Board of Education has prescribed the extent of the
medical examination of scholars attending public elementary schools,
and the examination of scholars in this district has been conducted
on the lines laid down by the Board.
939 parents, or 48.6 per cent., attended the inspection.
Objections to the examination of their children were received
from parents in 11 instances.
The conditions found in respect of Clothing and Footgear
were less satisfactory than last year.
This was also the case with regard to Cleanliness of Head
and Body. Warning notices were sent in 113 cases, and in 25
cases the children were excluded from school until the head was
free from nits. Eight of the parents of children excluded were
prosecuted, a fine of 5/- being imposed in six cases.
A slight improvement in Nutrition has been recorded, 85.6
per cent. being classed as normal, 12.0 per cent. as below normal,
and 2.4 per cent. as bad.
The observations in respect of Dental Conditions show a
marked improvement, 40.9 per cent. being sound, 43 4 per cent.
having less than four decayed teeth, and 15.5 per cent. having
four or more decayed teeth. Oral sepsis was noted in 0.2 per
cent. of cases.
Fewer Nose and Throat defects were noted, and the same
may be said of external Eye Diseases.
