The incidence rate per 1,000 of the population was 18 as
against 2.31 for last year.
Eight cases occurred in public institutions during the year,
6 of the persons affected being non-residents.
Seven deaths took place from this cause, i.e., a case mortality
rate of 7.5 per cent.
Antitoxin.
The Council's arrangements for providing Antitoxin were the
same as in previous years. A supply of this Serum is always
maintained at the Health Department, and is supplied free of
charge for the poorer inhabitants of the district. During 1915,
in 19 cases Antitoxin has been supplied to medical practitioners,
and in seven cases the Council have paid the charges.
Typhoid Fever.
Only one case was notified. This case occurred at the Military
Hospital and was treated there. No deaths were recorded from
this cause.
Erysipelas.
Thirty-two cases of this disease were notified, of whom 16
were institution cases, 15 of the persons affected being non-residents.
No cases proved fatal.
Puerperal Fever.
Eight cases of this disease were notified, of which 7 were
institution cases, 6 of the persons affected being non-residents.
Six cases proved fatal, four being non-residents.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
In this district 10 children were notified as suffering from
this disease, 6 of the cases occurring at the Infirmary. This is
