Result of Service of Notices.
(a) Legal proceedings.
As a result of non-compliance with abatement notices legal proceedings
were instituted in three cases. In two instances nuisance orders
were made, and in the remaining case the summons was withdrawn as
the work had been finished. It was agreed that the defendant should
pay £1. 5s. 6d. in payment of the Corporation's costs in connection with
the proceedings. The costs awarded in the other two cases amounted
to £4. 1s. 6d.
(b) Work carried out in default.
Seven dustbins were supplied by the Corporation in default of the
owners or occupiers.
The Corporation executed the necessary work to abate a nuisance
in one case where a nuisance order had been made by the Court but had
not been complied with by the owner.
The following table gives a summary of the nuisances abated and the sanitary improvements carried out, together with the defects remedied under the supervision of the sanitary inspectors:—
