Welfare Dental Clinic.—Cases are recommended by the
Assistant Welfare Officer to the Dental Clinic at Southey Hall
on Friday afternoons of each week. If the mothers require
dentures, payment by instalment is permitted or the Committee
in certain cases may remit payment in whole or part.
Mr. A. MacGregor Whyte, the Surgeon Dentist, reports:—
"I have pleasure in submitting the Annual Report on
Dental Inspection and Treatment carried out under the Maternity
and Child Welfare Scheme.
"Each Friday afternoon is devoted entirely to this Clinic,
but it has been found necessary to carry out much' of the denture
work on other afternoons after the School Clinic by appointment.
"Forty-one Friday afternoons were devoted to Inspection
and Treatment, and Dr. Scott administered Nitrous Oxide gas
for 48 cases requiring extraction of teeth, twenty-nine
Wednesday afternoons half-sessions being arranged.
''With a view to reducing cost of dentures, all preparatory
mechanical work is done by myself at the Clinic and completed
under my supervision at the Laboratory. The Laboratory work
has been highly satisfactory, and the charges moderate.
"Seventeen dentures have been supplied, and two dentures
repaired.
"Extraction of teeth with a view to supply of dentures
has been completed in six cases, of which only two are not yet
in satisfactory state for completion. The amount assessed in
the other four cases has not yet been received. As result of
investigation of circumstances in three cases, the Committee
authorised a reduction of the amount assessed to be paid by the
natient."
