The deaths occurring within the district of persons not
belonging thereto were 65, viz.:—
Atkinson Morley's Convalescent Hospital 3
North Wimbledon Hospital 9
Isolation Hospital 2
Others 51
Total 65
Taking those into consideration, the total number of deaths
properly belonging to Wimbledon is 546 and the death rate
9.4. The rate for England and Wales for the same period
was 11.6.

Table II. (pp. 43 and 44) gives the causes of, and ages at, deaths during 1923. Deaths due to notifiable infectious diseases are given on p. 26. The principal causes of death, apart from Zymotic deaths, are as follows:—

There was no unusual or excessive mortality during the
year calling for comment.
Infantile Mortality—There were 38 infant deaths during
the year (including transferable deaths), giving a rate of 44
per thousand registered births, a decrease of 14 per thousand
on last year's figures when there were fifty deaths and a rate
of 58. The infantile death rate calculated on the Registrar
General's figures is 43.7 per thousand births. The infant death
rate for illegitimate children was 50 per thousand births.
