NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE ACT (PART III) SERVICES
The Local Health Authority functions under the National Health
Service Act are administered by the Walthamstow Health Area SubCommittee
on behalf of the County Health Committee (Essex County
Council). Details are given in statistical form on pages 64 to 81.
Section 21 HEALTH CENTRES
I referred in my Report for 1961 to the recommendation of the
Health Area Sub-Committee concerning the establishment of six Health
Services Clinics in Walthamstow. In January 1962 the Minister of
Health requested Local Health and Welfare Authorities to provide him
with details of their plans for the development of their services
over a ten year period in order that these could be interlocked with
his Hospital Plan for England and Wales.
Local Health Authorities were asked to include in their plans
schemes for the provision of new buildings and the replacement of
unsatisfactory premises. The Health Area Sub-Committee, when sub
mitting their recommendations to the County Council in regard to this
aspect of the plan re-affirmed their desire for the erection of six
Health Services Clinics in the Area and specified the years or periods
during which they considered these projects should be commenced.

This schedule of projects as amended by the County Council and included in the County Plan is set out below.
