position and a full time Clerk/Storekeeper was appointed to take
charge of the premises. Bulk supplies of Welfare Foods from the
Ministry of Food Depot at Edmonton are delivered to the Central
Store and issues made to the various distribution centres throughout
the Borough.
An additional distribution centre was opened each weekday
morning at Northcott House, commencing on 30th August, 1954.
These sessions were later increased to include Tuesday and Friday
afternoons. By December the distribution at this centre exceeded
that at any other local distribution centre.
At the end of the year, eight Distribution Centres were open
for 24 sessions per week enabling beneficiaries to obtain supplies
from one to four centres on any weekday.
