DISTRIBUTION OF WELFARE FOODS
Distribution of Welfare Foods, i.e., National Dried Milk,
Orange Juice, Cod Liver Oil and A. & D. Vitamin Tablets, became
the responsibility of the Local Health Authority on 28th June, 1954.
Prior to that date distribution in Walthamstow was made from
the local office of the Ministry of Food, the Council's Infant Welfare
Centres and the Town Hall.
Staff employed in distributing the Welfare Foods at the
Council's Welfare Centres were supplied from the local office of
the Ministry of Food, which also arranged for supplies to the
Centres.
Distribution continued to take place from the local Food Office
until its closure at the end of July, 1954, when the remaining stock
was transferred to the Council's temporary Central Store at the Old
Town Hall.
At the end of August a permanent Central Store was opened
at Northcott House, High Street, Walthamstow in a well situated
