Classification of deaths:—
Preventable = 7. Unavoidable = 21. Inevitable = 5.
Preventable deaths were mostly respiratory infections, one
due to enteritis.
Unavoidable deaths were mostly due to prematurity and
atelectasis.
Inevitable deaths were mostly due to congenital malformation.
Twenty-eight deaths occurred in hospital and five deaths
at home.
Most deaths are in the unavoidable category and in the present
state of knowledge in regard to prematurity no further improvement
can be expected in this category at present.
