Particulars relating to outstanding sanitary notices were
supplied in reference to 1,527 enquiries.
General
Mr. C. W. Rayner, the Council's Housing Manager, kindly
gives the following details of rehousing carried out by his Department
in 1952:—

1-bedroom group 47
2-bedroom group 104
3-bedroom group 74
4-bedroom group 12

Of the total number of families rehoused, in 18 instances there
was a medical recommendation made in respect of tuberculosis.
The following extract is taken from a Report made to the
Sub-Committee on housing policy held in January, 1952, and
showing the housing situation in Walthamstow, at the 31st
December, 1951.
"Categories
"To make an intelligent assessment of the housing needs of
the Borough the Housing Department has analysed the applications
with the following results:—
(a) Families living in dwellings where there is overcrowding
in excess of 1½ persons per room 700
(b) Families in dwellings considered to be fully occupied.
viz., 1½ persons per room 474
(c) Families in dwellings where there is ½ unit of under-
occupation 824
(d) Families in dwellings where there is 1 unit of under-
occupation 709
(e) Families in dwellings where there is 1½ units of under-
occupation but more than one person per room 1,210
(0 Cases of one person per room or less 2,473

"As indicated in the above statement a dwelling is regarded
as 'overcrowded' if there are more than 1½ persons per living or
