Health Visiting—Attendance at Paediatric Hospital Rounds.—
In September, the Health Area Sub-Committee agreed that an
arrangement be made for the Health Visitors in turn to attend the
Paediatric Physician's Ward rounds at Whipps Cross Hospital and
for a trial period of six months. At the end of this period it was
apparent to all concerned that the arrangement was well worth
while. Information as to home conditions became more fully and
quickly available to the Paediatrician and after the child's discharge,
the Health Visitor ensured that his advice was followed in the
home. For the Health Visitor, her knowledge of paediatric nursing
is kept up-to-date and she learns of new advances in the treatment
of children's diseases.
HOME NURSING
(Section 25)
The Superintendent of the District Nurses' Home, Miss E.
G. Welbrock, S.R.N., S.C.M., M.T.D., reports as follows :—
"The year 1951 has been a very busy year both on the
General and on the Midwifery side.
" Miss C. A. Lee retired after 16 years of loyal service to
the Nursing Association and the staff were very sorry to lose
their Superintendent.
" Three of the General Nurses commenced their Queen's
District Training in the latter part of 1951 and were successful
in passing the examination in March, 1952.
" On the 1st October, 1951, the Municipal Midwives, who
had previously worked under the supervision of the Thorpe
Coombe Maternity Hospital, were transferred to ' Carisbrooke,'
and we are all working very happily together.
" The Branch Home at Highams Park is not yet ready for
occupation but it is hoped the work of alteration and adaptation
will be commenced early in January, 1952, and that the
Home will be opened in the Spring * The Branch Home has
become a necessity in view of the increasing population to be
cared for in that portion of the Borough.
" A further urgent necessity is the provision of a second
car for the Male Nurse. In order to relieve the Nurses of
heavy and unsuitable male cases, the Male Nurse has to cover
most of Walthamstow.
* The Branch Home was opened on 5th May, 1952.
