NOTIFICATION OF BIRTHS
2,108 births (352 of which belonged to other areas)
were notified during the year under the Public Health Act, 1936.
Notifications were received as follows: Doctors, 226; Midwives,
1,825 ; others 57.
Included in the above are 313 births which were notified as
having occurred outside the Borough.
Also included are 50 stillbirths, ten of which belonged to
other areas. Of the total, seven occurred outside the Borough.
STILLBIRTHS
Forty local stillbirths were notified, yielding a rate per 1,000
population of 0.33.
NEO-NATAL MORTALITY
The neo-natal mortality is the number of infants dying under
one month per 1,000 live births. During 1951, 23 infants died in
the first four weeks of life, yielding a rate of 14.
