Individual case reports were sent to the Medical Research
Council in connection with their research.
The usual follow-up of notified cases was carried out after
recovery and a note made of the degree of the remaining disability,
ability to work and nature of work, to use public transport and
the general domestic circumstances. Where applicable, advisability
was stressed as to registration as a Disabled Person and attention
was drawn to the activities of the local branch of the Infantile
Paralysis Fellowship.
ACUTE ENCEPHALITIS
No notifications were received.

BACILLARY DYSENTERY

Unlike its predecessor, 1951produced a considerable amount of dysentery. The159notifications are analysed below :—

1937 figures include 49 notified cases at the Nursery
school, the true incidence being nearer 90. The school was closed
temporarily to limit the epidemic.
