The second case was Mrs. M.W., aged 63 years, who was
first discovered by the District Sanitary Inspector in December,
1950, to be living alone in unsanitary conditions. An unsuccessful
attempt was made to give domestic help and on the 8th February
Mrs. W. was found lying on the floor unconscious. The patient's
doctor attempted "voluntary" removal to hospital without success
and application had to be made to the Court on the 8th March,
removal being effected the same day. The patient was admitted
to hospital and transferred to Part III accommodation on the
19th May.
The third case was Mrs. A.H., aged 83 years, first reported
by the family doctor who had been called by the Police. He
found the patient suffering from bronchitis, myocardial degeneration
and senility. She was found living in unsanitary conditions and
refused care and attention both from the home nurses and relatives.
The hearing was on the 14th March, removal the same evening
and death occurred seven days later.
A fourth patient suffering from extensive cancer of the face
declined removal to hospital for some days but eventually consented
when served with intimation of the projected Court hearing. He
died within a few days.
