(a) Schools Meals Service. A specimen meal was available and
this was sent to the Pathologist at Epping. Swabs from the
Cook's nose were also sent. Both gave a growth of coagulase
positive staphylococcus.
(b) Hospital Ward. Canned Stewed Steak was suspected. A can
of steak similar to that used was sent for examination.
(c) Factory Canteen. Illness followed 10-12 hours after midday
meal. Meat, Canned Carrots and Canned Beans, also faeces
specimens sent to Laboratory. No causal agent identified.

Swine Fever Order, 1938.— No action necessary.
Sheep Scab Order, 1938.— No action necessary.
Regulation of Movement of Swine Order, 1950. — Eleven
licences were dealt with.
Parasitic Mange Order, 1938.—No action necessary.
The following Orders were dealt with as necessary :—
Live Poultry (Regulation of Sales, Exhibitions and Move-
ments) Order, 1950.
Poultry Carcases (Importation) Order, 1950.
Foot and Mouth Disease (Infected Areas) Special Order

RATS AND MICE DESTRUCTION ACT, 1919
AND PREVENTION OF DAMAGE BY PESTS ACT, 1949
The Rats and Mice Destruction Act, 1919 was repealed by the
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949 as from the 31st March,
the date on which the latter Act came into force.
Certain financial benefits have been brought about by the
introduction of the new Act, as local authorities are now permitted
to give a free service to owners or occupiers of private dwellings
