There are no Cowkeepers in the district.
The number of Retail Milk Distributors is 67.
Eighty-seven visits were paid to registered dealers and a satisfactory
standard of cleanliness was maintained.
(b) Ice Cream.
Sixty-one applications for Registration were received.
New licences were granted as follows : —
Manufacturers 1
Vendors, New 39
Vendors, Transfers 18
Refused 3
Number on Register at end of year 222
Number of above receiving allocations of fats, sugar,
etc., for manufacturing 25*
* Twelve of these pass their dockets to other firms who manufacture for
them.
Ice Cream (Heat Treatment, Etc.), Regulations, 1947/8.
The trade has continued to maintain a very good standard
to comply with the above Regulations.
Medical Examination— Typhoid, Etc., Carriers.
The scheme of voluntary medical examination and blood
testing of employees in the ice cream trade has now reached its
fourth year.
A session is held one afternoon a week and 203 employees
presented themselves for the purpose of having blood specimens
taken by the Medical Officer of Health.
No "Carriers" were found during the period under review.
Bacterial Quality and Grading of Ice Cream.
One hundred and fourteen samples were submitted for bacteriological
examination and for grading in accordance with the
Provisional Test of the Ministry of Health.
