Medical Aid requests from the Hospital Midwives for the services
of the Resident Obstetrician or her deputy, numbered 261 (that is
26.4 per cent.) for patients in labour and 10 (that is 0.98 per cent.)
for infants.
INFANTS.
The number bom in the Hospital this year was 1,017; this
included 20 cases of twins and one case of triplets.
There were 82 premature infants (those weighing 5J lbs. or less):
this represents 8 per cent, of the total number of infants.

Breast Feeding.—88.1 per cent, of mothers discharged from the Hospital were completely breast feeding their infants; a further 9.42 per cent, were partly breast feeding, while in 2.48 per cent, of cases, bottle feeding had, for one reason or another, to be substituted.
