tendered his resignation to take effect on the 5th July. Mr. Duncan
had held his position for 24 years.
In addition, the inspectorate was two below strength for four
months and one for the remainder of the year.

Mr. F. W. Kemp, who assumed duties as Chief Sanitary Inspector as from 6th July, reports as follows:—

"Of the 1,425 intimation notices which were served during the
year, 13 were in respect of factory premises, and of the 1,412 relating
to defects in houses 1,102 were complied with without resort to
statutory procedure.
"Owing to the failure of owners to carry out certain Statutory
Notices, served under Section 9 of the Housing Act, 1936, the
Council executed the necessary work to two houses at a cost of
£137 10s. 3d.
"The nature and variety of the work done in 1945 is shown in
the following tables:—
