The Superintendent, Miss C.A.Lee, S.R.N., S.C.M., reports
as follows:-
"I have much pleasure in submitting the following report of
the activities of the Association for the year ending
31st.December, 1943.
In spite of a small (but excellent) staff the standard and
efficiency of the work has been maintained in both the general
nursing and midwifery as is shown by the satisfactory reports
received from the Queen's Inspector (through the Queen's
Institute) and Miss Greaves.
During the year a post-certificate course of midwifery lectures
was arranged by the W.D.N.A. Committee. Professor Dame Louise
Mcllroy kindly undertook the lectures which,by the courtesy of
the Borough Council, were given at Thorpe Coombe. Midwives in
'the surrounding areas were invited to attend.
The Committee has adopted the Rushcliffe scale of salaries
laid down in the report for District Nurses.
We are happy to say that the overdraft which was crippling
our efforts has been wiped out. To maintain this state and also
to meet the increased salaries we look to receiving greater
local support. The Provident Scheme is slowly growing but it is
still not worthy of this large Borough. We appeal to all
householders to join this scheme in their own interests as well
as ours.
From the 21st.December, 1942, to October 31st.1943, 17 pupils
entered for their district midwifery training'.'
The number of midwifery cases attended in Walthamstow
throughout the year are as follows:-
Municipal Voluntary Total.
Without Doctor 187 21 208
With Doctor 18 9 27
Totals 205 30 255
We should like to place on record our appreciation and thanks
to the many friends and especially to the voluntary collectors
who by their efforts have helped our finances.
Our thanks are also due to Dr.Powell, M.O.H., for his ready
help and encouragement and, finally, to the splendid help given
by the Civil Defence and Red Cross Nurses. (These latter are
attached to the South-West Essex Technical College).
