MEDICAL AID REQUESTS.
In a total of 365 cases, medical aid was required by a
Midwife. Treatment was given by the Resident Obstetrician
or the Doctor acting for her.

MATERNAL DEATH.
There was one maternal death from pre-eclamptic toxaemia
and ante-partum haemorrhage.
One patient, who had had a normal confinement, died at home
six weeks after her delivery.
Between May 1st., 1934, when the Hospital was opened, and
April 2nd., 1943, there were 5,000 confinements, 5054 infants
were born - 52 cases of twins and one of triplets. 533 patients
(10.7 per cent.) were admitted for treatment during the ante-natal
period.
At the ante-natal clinic, 5,767 patients made a total
attendance of 48,532.
Since the Post-Natal Clinic (which patients attend for a final
examination and any necessary treatment after confinement) was
inaugurated in April 1935, 2,746 mothers, (i.e. 61 per cent. of the
total eligible) have attended; 1164 extra attendances were made
for treatment.
