The Superintendent, Miss C.A.Lee, S.R.N., S.C.M., reports
as follows:-
The year 1942 was satisfactory in spite of difficulties due
to a depleted staff.
The Inspector of the Queen's Institute reported on the efficient
work of the nurses and the high standard of the midwifery technique
Salaries of the nurses were increased by 10% in accordance with
' the wishes of the Queen's Institute.
Fifteen pupil midwives received training in District Midwifery
under the Council's training scheme.

Thanks are due for the assistance given by the Civil Defence
Nurses and Red Cross Nurses from the Technical College.
CONSULTANT OBSTETRICIANS.
The services of a Consultant Obstetrician were not required
during the year (i.e. apart from the Maternity Home).

There was no change in the arrangements for the employment
or subsidy of midwives by the Council.
Non-medical supervision of Municipal Midwives has been carried
out by the Assistant Matron at the Maternity Hospital.

those employed at Thorpe Coombe Maternity Hospital) during 1942.
