ALTHAMSTOW DISTRICT NURSING- ASSOCIATION
(In affiliation with the Queen's Institute of District Nursing.)
17 & 19, Carisbrooke Road, E.17.
Miss C.A.Lee, Superintendent, reports as follows:-
"This year the Association has suffered a severe loss in the
resignation of Mrs. Drury, Honorary Secretary. She has been a
valiant worker for the Association since its inception nearly
36 years age - first as a member of the Committee and for the
past 18 years as Honorary Secretary.
The Provident scheme of payment, which should be a sound basis
of our finance, has shown a tendency upward for the first time
since the beginning of the War when it suddenly collapsed.
The depleted staff of nurses and midlives have more than
justified their existence. They make up in quality what is
lacking in quantity.
Twelve pupil midlives sent by Thorpe Coombe received their
district midwifery training - each for three months.
The number of midwifery cases is the lowest we have ever had
not because our bookings were less but owing to cases being
transferred by doctors for various reasons to Thorpe Coombe or
other maternity hospitals.
The Staff at the end of December was as follows:Superintendent
3 Pupil Midlives
4 Queen's Nurses (All midlives) 1 Permanent Voluntas Nurse
2 Municipal Midlives
A rota of voluntary nurses (whose help is greatly appreciated).
The use of gas and air has practically ceased since the
war started.
All nurses are qualified to give it.
Midwifery and maternity eases attended for the year were
as follows:-
Municipal Other cases
Midwives 129 13
Doctors 13 7
142 20
30.
