"Three Queen's Candidates successfully passed the examination
for the Queen's Roll and were placed on the staff of the W.D.N.A.
"During the year the Superintendent (Miss Lee) and four
Queen's Nurses took the course in Gas and Air Analgesia (Bursaries
for these being kindly given by the Central Council for District
Nursing in Greater London at Queen Charlotte's Hospital and
York Road Lying-in) and received their Certificates. Ten of the
staff are now qualified to administer Gas and Air.
"A second Minnitt Gas and Air Machine (Queen Charlotte's
Model) has been purchased for the District Midwifery cases. This
cost only £5 owing to the generosity of the Birthday Trust Fund.
"Nurses Welbrock and Duff took the A.R.P. Instructor's
Course and were awarded Certificates.
"Twenty-nine Pupil Midwives were trained during the year.
Of these, 12 were from Thorpe Coombe and 17 from L .C.C. Hospitals.
"General cases attended during the year, January
1st to December 31st, 1938 1,111

"Midwifery and Maternity cases attended in the
Maternity Home 232
' 'Midwifery and Maternity cases attended on the

"Cases outside the Borough in and out of the
Home (included above) 68
"The Provident Scheme remains stationary. Old Age Pensioners
and othei necessitous cases are nursed free in spite of our
serious financial difficulties.
"We are grateful to the Council for their continued support."
Your Council make a grant of £100 to the Association.
Dr. Cecilia Cohen, acting for the Association, kindly arranged
the following post-graduate lecture for midwives in the Borough,
an invitation to attend also being extended to the midwives in
adjoining areas:—
