There are five nursing homes in the Borough with a total
maximum accommodation of 31 beds for maternity cases. In
addition, the Municipal Maternity Hospital has 35 lying-in beds
and 4 isolation beds, making a total for the Borough of 66 lying-in
beds and 4 isolation beds.

Mrs. Drury, the Honorary Secretary, kindly reports as
follows:—
' 'The past year has been a momentous one in that we have
definitely been included in the local Municipal Midwifery Scheme
and two of our Midwives appointed to undertake our portion of
this work.
"The staff at the end of the year was as follows:—
"One Superintendent.
"One Assistant Superintendent.
"Six Queen's Nurses (five also Midwives).
"Two Queen's Candidates (also Midwives).
"Two Municipal Midwives.
"One Emergency Queen's Nurse Midwife.
"One Maternity Nurse.
"Four Non-Queen's Nurses.
"Four Pupil Midwives.
