No action was necessary under the Public Health (Prevention
of Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925, or Section 172 of the Public
Health Act, 1936.
The arrangements detailed in the report for 1935 were
continued during 1938.
Amongst other measures taken to prevent tuberculosis are the
following :—
(a) Re-housing of patients with infectious pulmonary tuberculosis.
The re-housing is subject to the patient occupying, as far
as possible, a separate bed and bedroom, and attending the Tuberculosis
Dispensary regularly.
(b) When a patient is notified to be suffering from nonpulmonary
tuberculosis an inquiry is made as to the milk supply,
and in any case of doubt the milk is biologically tested for the
tubercle bacillus.
Infectious Diseases notified by the Medical Staff.—Scarlet
Fever, 10; Diphtheria, 7; Dysentery, 6; Total, 23.
G.—INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL.
Renovations, etc.—The following works of renovation and
maintenance were carried out during 1938:—
A Block.—Interior renovation of Scullery, Kitchen Vegetable
Store and Refrigerator Room. Cleansing and whitening of
corridors and No. 42 Bedrooms, No. 11 Bathrooms, No. 10
Lavatories.
B Block.—Interior renovations. Provision of glazed curbs and
hearths to ventilating grates. Replacement of defective
concrete paving with red flag paving.
C Block.—Interior renovations. Provision of glazed curbs and
hearths to ventilating grates. Replacement of defective
concrete paving with red flag paving.
E Block.—Interior renovations.
G Block.—Interior renovations throughout.
T Block.—Interior and exterior renovations.
General.—Reinforced concrete floor over pit in Laundry Boiler
House. Provision of No. 2 Refrigerators. Provision of
electric bell system of communication.
