dogs were admitted under licence, the conditions of which were duly
observed.
Foot and Mouth Disease (Regulation of Movement) Order,
1928.—This standstill Order was made because of danger of widespread
infection. It came into operation on 4th April and was
withdrawn on 18th April. Under the Order this Borough was a
"controlled area," and the necessary Movement Licences were
issued.
Tuberculosis Order, 1938, etc.—Section 19 (i) of the Agriculture
Act, 1937, transferred, with effect from 1st April, 1938,
the functions of Veterinary Inspection by the Local Authority to
the inspectors appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and
Fisheries.
The Tuberculosis Order of 1925 has now been replaced by the
Order of 1938, under which routine inspections are now carried out
by the Ministry's Veterinary Inspectors.
RATS AND MICE DESTRUCTION ACT, 1919.
During the year 20 Notices were served under this Act. In
93 instances poison was issued gratis to occupiers of premises upon
complaint after investigation.
In 63 instances drains were repaired where found defective.
In 32 instances drains were tested giving negative results. In 17
instances rat proofing of out-buildings was carried out.
It is difficult to estimate the number of rats destroyed, but
judging by the amount of rat bait apparently consumed, the number
must be quite considerable.
The poisons used were Liquid Extract of Red Squill, and Barium
Carbonate in Biscuit form.
In all 182 complaints were received and dealt with.
FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ACT, 1901.
