(iv) Shops and Offices.—Towards the latter part of the year
attention was drawn to 32 breaches under the Shops Act 1934, and
as a result the following conditions have been met:—
In 20 instances the conditions of the Act have been complied
with; 5 matters are pending for carrying into effect the plans
sanctioned by the Council; the remaining 7 are in hand.
(v) Camping Sites.—There were no sites in the area used as
camping sites. There are, however, several van dwellers in the
Higham Hill area, and the Council have authorised these to be
dealt with under the Essex County Council Act.
(vi) Smoke Abatement.—14 complaints of nuisance caused
by smoke were investigated—only 9 of which were justifiable—and
remedial measures adopted.
Unsuitable coal and/or bad stoking were the causes of smoke
emission, and consultations with those responsible brought about
the cessation of the nuisance.
