massage treatments, also 24,727 electrical treatments, 4 special
treatments and 2,981 artificial sunlight treatments at the Comely
Bank Clinic; a total of 39,893 treatments at this Clinic."
Facilities at Comely Bank.—The following facilities for
electro-medical treatment are provided at Comely Bank:—Galvanism;
Faradism; Radiant Heat—Infra-Red Ray; DiathermyHigh
Frequency; Massage and Remedial Exercises; Special treatment
for Warts and Nevi.
Venereal Disease Treatment.
Treatment is provided by the Essex County Council, and all
the facilities of the London County Council are available.
Outfits for taking specimens from patients are provided for
practitioners, on request, by the Whitechapel (London County
Council) Clinic, Turner Street, Whitechapel, E.l.
By arrangement with the Licencees. 67 new metal plaques,
supplied by the County Council, were fixed in public-house urinals,
etc. The plaques draw attention to facilities for treatment.
Essex Public Medical Service.
The above service brings to dependants of panel patients and
to others benefits roughly analogous to those of the National Health
Insurance Act.
Twenty-two of the medical praotitioners of the Borough accept
patients under the scheme.
2. Public Assistance.—Out-relief and institutional treatment
is provided by the Essex County Council. Mr. Pegram, Clerk
to the Essex County Council South-Western Area Guardian's Committee,
kindly states that the amount of relief provided in
Walthamstow during the two years ended 31st December, 1938, was
as follows:—
