TO THE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS OF THE MATERNITY
AND CHILD WELFARE COMMITTEE.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to present herewith a report on the work done by the
Maternity and Child Welfare Service during 1937.
The year is notable for the operation of the Midwives Act, 1936,
the organisation of an emergency obstetric unit, and the approval
given to the scheme of training in gas and air analgesia at the
Maternity Hospital.
The total number of attendances at. the Council's Clinics was
just under fifty thousand.
I wish to take this opportunity of acknowledging your continued
consideration and the good work of the staff.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient Servant,
A. T. W. POWELL,
Medical Officer of Health.
